JAPANESE LESSON
I’m sorry.
Today’s topic is “I’m sorry.”
You say “I’m sorry” when you feel sorry for what you have done.
We say “Gomen nasai” when we want to say “I’m sorry.” In hiragana characters, it’s “ごめんなさい.”
It originally means “Please forgive me” and it’s little bit different from “I’m sorry.”
However, we usually use this phrase when we feel sorry.
EN: I’m sorry for my mistake.
JP: Machigaete shimatte gomen nasai.
This phrase also has the meaning of “Excuse me” as well.
EN: Excuse me, but I need to go.
JP: Gomen nasai. Osakini shitsurei shimasu.
This phrase is quite common to use and even if it’s not bad we hear it every day. This is why you hear Japanese people say “I’m sorry” many times.
Our next topic on Wednesday will be “Shitsurei shimasu.” This phrase has also several meanings.
