JAPANESE LESSON
rice porridge
Today’s topic is “rice porridge.”
It might not be that often these days to have a rice porridge, but in Japan, we have it when we get a cold.
We call a rice porridge “okayu” in Japanese.
EN: I had a rice porridge yesterday.
JP: Kinou okayu wo tabemashita.
We also have a traditional one called “Nanakusa-gayu.” It is seven herb rice porridge, and we have this today on January 7th. The purpose is to wish our good health during the year and rest our stomachs after overeating great food during the new year’s holiday.
The next topic is “snow” in Japanese.
