Does your personality change depending on the language?
It is said that bilinguals or trilinguals have a couple of personalities and it has strong connections with language. I am not an English native speaker. but I speak English and Japanese. In my case, when I speak Japanese, I feel like I am more polite and conservative. When I speak English, however, I become a bit more friendly and extrovert. I would like you to think about it. From my experience, I could tell that Language and personality have strong connections because there is culture and history behind it.
Generally speaking, politeness and being calm are considered as a virtue in Japan, and Japanese completely expresses it. For example Japanese has “Keigo” which is used when you talk with people who are older than you. Also, we can show the respect by changing or adding just one letter. Those culture and history are put into the language, so that is why when I speak Japanese, I am conservative in my opinion.
In other words, you can input the culture, the custom and the history of the country through the language. Or you can be closer to a native speaker by learning the culture and the history. If you can teach the culture and the history behind it when you teach English to kids, students can enjoy your lesson a lot and improve their English more effectively.
