Christmas Cake in Japan
In Japan, Christmas season is not complete without having a Christmas cake.
It is a very enticing tradition that gives a spark of joy to everyone, most especially to the kids in this time of the year.
Eating delicious food, desserts and cakes are seen as a common thing during Christmas Eve around the world. However, in Japan, you can’t help but notice that Japanese have this image of what is a Christmas cake should look like.
For most Japanese, a Christmas cake should be like of a shortcake. A round soft sponge cake with such fluffy white whipped cream, topped with luscious red strawberries. Sometimes, a face of Santa Claus or a Snowman is added as a decoration on top of it.
As to why they view it that way, we don’t exactly know. Probably, it has something to do with the color of the Japanese flag. But, we can think of it as a symbol that celebrates prosperity while looking back to all the memories you had for the whole year and to look forward for another beginning of the coming year.
It is a delicious and satisfying treat every Christmas and here’s another catch!
It goes on sale every December 25th! So, if you get a chance to celebrate and experience the Christmas season in Japan, make sure to grab one!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
