Nominication

Have you ever seen Japanese people drunk? During the daytime, they are very quiet, diligent and modest. They are sometimes considered unfriendly. Once they are drunk, however, they become a different person in a good way. In other words, they become more approachable.

Taking advantage of this, Japanese people try to go drinking and have a communication with people whom they want to get closer to, as we call it “Nominication”. It is the word that Nomi which means to drink and communication are mixed. Therefore, Nominication means going for Nomi to have a communication with people.

Where do you usually drink? Some people prefer to drink alone at home and other people prefer to go to a bar. In Japan, there are pubs called Izakaya and lots of Japanese people prefer to drink at Izakaya. There are a variety of cuisines and booze at Izakaya, so it is the best place for Nominication.
