Japanese Modern Samurai – “Shotime”
Most of people would say the impression of Japan is Samurai if they are asked. They actually existed until about 150 years ago and there are a number of movies and books about them. Today, Samurai doesn’t exist, but there is an athlete who has achieved great success in the world like Samurai, which I would like you to know.
Shohei Ohtani (27)
Shohei Ohtani is a professional baseball pitcher, designated hitter and outfielder for the Los Angeles Angeles of Major League Baseball. He is the most famous athlete in Japan and famous from baseball fans in the world too. If you like baseball or are a bit familiar with it, you could understand how unbelievable it is to have had lots of achievements as a two-way player. He set so many new records in the last season and was selected as a MVP. In addition to his achievements, however, he is very popular with his humanity and personality, and there are so many stories to symbolize them.
As an example, he never gets angry when he gets hit by a pitch, even if it is deliberate. In the MLB, you often see players fight each other after hit by a pitch. Also, he picks up garbage on the ground when he finds it, even during the game. In addition, he never forgets the feelings of gratitude and apology. When he comes to bat, he definitely bows to a referee. When his pitch hits a batter, he takes off his cap and bows to express his apology.
He is literally a modern Samurai! Just by watching him, you can feel Japanese culture or customs and what Samurai was like. Next year, we cannot take our eye off from him”
