English Boards of ALTs

As an ALT, you will likely to be asked by your English Head Teacher or your coordinator to create an English Board.

There are months and events in school where everybody gets too busy. During those times, some of your classes will be cancelled. You will be left inside the Teacher’s office while everybody is busy with their job.

Creating your own English Board at your school will help you to be more productive especially during your vacant time. The English Board is also a way of establishing the presence of English Education and your presence as an ALT at school.

The Teachers, students and even the School Principal will surely appreciate your effort, it is a way of showing them that you are a dedicated Teacher aiming the same goal of giving knowledge and education to the Japanese students.

What is an English Board?

An English Bulletin Board or English Board is a board with a collection of photos or images, English Letters, English Words, colors, shapes that introduces a coherent theme or message to the students and the people inside the school.

In most cases, the BOE would request the ALTs to create one in their schools but if nobody ask you to do it. Just take the initiative to do it. You will be recognized if you are someone with initiative of doing something to improve the English Education in your school.

Creating English Board is also a way of showcasing the English Skills of your students. You can showcase the answers of your students that are written in English and post it on your board. Most of the visitors especially the parents would be very interested to look at your board including the English Skills of the students.
